Roy Dale is a young rapper from Houston. His debut album All in a Day released last month and showcased his style - a confident, proud Texan with clever braggadocio.
The intro track is an ode to Texas - "Texas Forever." Roy Dale raps as if he has something to prove while already knowing he's got what it takes to make it to the next level. The record sounds like a great fit for Drake fans, but instead of Canadian loyals, Roy rolls with a Texas crew.
Roy shows a lot of potential on this record. Despite constant sexual references and obsessive use of the "N" word, his wordplay and wit shine through. This is most evident on my favorite, the album closer "Life Lessons."
In "Life Lessons," Roy raps, "...Workin the 9-5's, and busy tryin to get my momma in that high rise/so tell the deejay to put me on replay...no rap trick, just tryin to get my spinach and popeye's...this government cheese probably the only thing they been feedin me that is not lies...and to our daughters, don't be frivolous as us/be careful of yourself and the n**** that you trust/is he looking for love or trying to get a nut, your body is a temple and protecting it is a must." This is a great song. I'm sold.
